What do you mean by sustainable water management?

04/12/2021

In the last few years, the rapid economic development of human civilization has resulted in the consumption of vital natural resources. In this regard, the natural resource subjected to a great deal of unnecessary wastage is water. Moreover, climate change has posed a threat of acute decline in the availability of viable water sources around us. At this rate, in the next few decades, we, as a civilization, will fail to quench the thirst of the ever-growing population. Wars will become inevitable over water distribution.

Our failure to conserve water adequately can be attributed to the poor planning we have exercised in water management programs over the years. The good thing is that we, as a society, have understood the importance of water conservation lately and have started organizing ourselves to plan and implement good water management programs.

Today, sustainable water management can be heard of quite frequently. Almost every real estate development company has started keeping aside a significant portion of its budget for it. If you think that it is something very sophisticated and difficult to achieve, you should know that you are wrong. The most effective measures are, in fact, quite simple. Here are a few simple techniques that can brilliantly improve water management in 2021.

1.Rainwater harvesting

It is a shame not to have any mechanism to take advantage of the rains. Rainwater harvesting is simple. It demands constructing a few tanks and slopes, which would direct the water into the tanks. The harvested rainwater can be used for a wide range of activities, such as cleaning, gardening, etc. The good thing is that construction companies have made it a point to include rainwater harvesting in their sustainable water management plan.

2.Quality plumbing

It is probably the most neglected dimension of water wastage. When the plumbing is faulty, you lose a lot of water due to leakages and seepages. This wastage is not accounted for. It can be changed if the real estate development companies invest in good quality plumbing. Recently, a few development companies have started installing sensors in their plumbing network. It helps damages to the pipes be detected immediately, ensuring they can be repaired without wasting much water.

3.Hydrophilic flooring

It is a bit costly but highly effective technique for sustainable water resources management. It refers to the type of floor which attracts water and passes it to a connected tank for storage. Such flooring will become popular in the upcoming few decades.
